For decades beginning in the 1960s the countercultural left has slowly crept into every aspect of our society, eating away at our values, mores, and norms like a cancer.
It took some time — a couple of generations, no doubt — but the takeover of our our cultural institutions is now complete.
From academia and education to entertainment, the arts, much of our political processes, our ranking military brass, and even our sports leagues and competitions, traditionalist conservative values are no longer practiced, recognized, observed, or tolerated. And the result on our society will be complete collapse, just as the Romans collapsed two millennia ago.
Case in point: Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.
No question she’s one of the best in her sport and Team USA was lucky to have her on board — or so everyone thought until she just decided to quit mid-competition during the current games in Tokyo because she wasn’t having much success.
Why did she do it? We’re told it’s a ‘mental health issue’ — stress, whatnot, as though she’s not been under any stress at all getting to the point of being an Olympics-level competitor.
But instead being taken to task for her decision to leave competition in the middle of an event she has literally worked most of her life to attend and compete in, our cultural ‘managers’ are not only defending her but they are providing her with excuses a-plenty.
“This is Twilight Zone stuff — a bizarre kind of ‘mental health’ fundamentalism is overtaking the culture,” journalist Michael Tracey noted on Twitter. “She is genuinely receiving more plaudits for withdrawing from competition at the last second on supposed ‘mental health’ grounds than if she’d actually won the Gold Medal.”

Enter the apologists, starting with a glowing New York Times:
Ten years ago, or even five, an athlete of Simone Biles’s stature might have been reluctant to admit that she struggled with pressure, much less to have withdrawn in the middle of an Olympic competition. …
Though sports psychologists say a stigma persists about athletes and mental health, and Biles was surely disappointed not to have lived up to enormous Olympic expectations, she was also widely embraced as the latest active, elite athlete who had the courage to acknowledge her vulnerability.
“What a sigh of relief she must be experiencing just to be real, to say, ‘You know what, I’m not OK,’” Hillary Cauthen, a clinical sports psychologist in Austin, Texas, said on Tuesday, said after one of the greatest gymnast in the history of the sport…just quit.
Cauthen wasn’t alone in excusing Biles.
“It makes me so frustrated to see comments about Simone not being mentally tough enough or quitting on her team,”Andrea Orris, who coached and competed at Illinois State and trained alongside Carly Patterson and Nastia Liukin at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy, noted on Instagram, Fox News reported.
She went on to say that Biles was abused by convicted former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.
“We are talking about the same girl who was molested by her team doctor throughout her entire childhood and teen years, won the world all-around championship title while passing a kidney stone, put her body through an extra year of training through the pandemic, added so much difficulty to her routines that the judges literally do not know how to properly rate her skills (because) they are so ahead of her time,” the apologist continued.
“All of this while maintaining her responsibilities to her endorsement deals, the media, personal relationships, etc. And some people can still honestly say, ‘Simone Biles is soft. She is a quitter.’ That girl has endured more trauma by the age of 24 than most people will ever go through in a lifetime,” Orris added.
Again, the girl literally trained for this moment all of her life; what’s past abuse, as horrific as it likely was, or anything got to do with quitting now, at the biggest moment in her life?
Only our left-wing counterculturists can answer such a question.
